ODELL by Kayleigh Dawn
Kayleigh Fuhrman, Designer
Making her fashion design debut, 17-year-old designer, Kayleigh Fuhrman's style has been described as edgy, contemporary and futuristic. Her first collection entitled, "Free to be Me" is versatile and fresh.
When we were little, my sister and I saved our money to buy a horse. We were 7 years old when we bought, Della. Her registered name is O’Dell’s Blue Queen. She’s meant a lot to me through the years and she is getting really old. I wanted to honor her by naming my fashion label after her.
I would describe my style as edgy and futuristic, versatile and sometimes girly. I am inspired by video games, Anime, and sometimes my mom’s vintage sewing patterns.
I think girls who are artistic and comfortable being themselves will like wearing my clothes. Girls who don’t find it necessary to blend in with the crowd will enjoy my line. Sometimes jeans and t-shirts make a person look lazy, like they don’t care about their appearance. Don’t get me wrong, I wear jeans and t-shirts sometimes, but I feel my best when I express myself through clothes and I think that is true for most girls.
It really bothers me when girls think that putting on a pair of expensive jeans and a nicer t-shirt means they’ve “dressed up.” It doesn’t take much imagination to put on a pair of expensive jeans and add a nicer t-shirt. I think they should try something new, maybe something like ODELL by Kayleigh Dawn!
Don’t get me wrong, I wear jeans and t-shirts sometimes, but I feel my best when I express myself through clothes and I think most girls do.
I have always been interested in fashion and art. I wanted to find a career that let me express myself. The women in my family enjoy sewing and so, I thought fashion design would be a good fit for me. I don’t know much about sewing, yet. I’ve done a few simple things, but I am hoping to learn from my mom. I would like to be able to design and then sew the garments myself.
In the future, I’d like to travel. I like looking at my surroundings for inspiration. I went to an aquarium with my niece and nephew and took lots of pictures of fish. The colors and patterns were beautiful.
I hope that girls who hear about my fashion line will be inspired to be themselves and not worry about what others think. I struggled with that constantly until I became focused on fashion design. I’ve always felt more confident when I dressed the way I wanted to dress.
